4 Ways to Keep Your New Year’s Resolution

Guess what?! The new year is almost here so it’s time to set your goals for 2017! But wait, let’s sit and think how your goals went for 2016, you started out strong, right? Then you put your goals on the back burner?  Well, I came up with 4 points to help you achieve your 2017 goals!

1. Set Attainable Goals

It’s extremely important to set goals that are actually POSSIBLE to achieve in a short time period!  Setting goals that are unrealistic is just asking to fail, but also, you can’t make your goals so easy that they don’t challenge you!  Keep them simple and specific, but challenge yourself! Whether it’s losing weight or saving money, make sure it’s something that can be done!

2. Track Your Progress

Tracking your progress is important as well, it shows you how far you’ve come and motivates you to keep going! Keep a journal and write down your thoughts, feelings, and actions for this year.  I would suggest writing a weekly summary/update so each week you look back to see what you’ve you done and if you need to modify your routine to help achieve your goals! A great way to document your progress for weight loss is to take photos of yourself, just simply create an album on your phone and save the pictures there. Be sure to keep visualizing your goal for those times that you will struggle to keep going!

3. Reward Yourself & Forgive Yourself

Now, i’ve been told “you’re not an animal, you don’t need to reward yourself,” however, I beg to differ.  I think it’s very important to reward yourself…within reason.  Now, you can’t reward yourself every day with a cheeseburger and milkshake for dinner because you had a salad for lunch.  If losing weight is your goal, give yourself a cheat meal (not day) once a week to help with your sanity.  If you’re saving money, once you save a specific amount, take yourself on a small shopping spree.  This will also teach you self-control and you’ll be one of the few who actually can say no to office donuts and stay in for dinner.  Don’t forget to forgive yourself. If that cheat meal turns into 3 or 4, don’t give up your goal.  Don’t dwell on the fact it happened, let it go and keep moving on.

4. Put it on Your Social Media

OK, this one seems a bit controversial because you may think, “no one cares about me reaching my goals” but in all reality, people do care.  They may be just nosey about what’s going on in your life or you may get a few haters but you can’t please everyone and let’s be honest, the point of social media is to put details of your life on there! If someone doesn’t like it, they know where the unfollow button is. 😉 Also, you may inspire others to set goals for themselves and you can share these tips with them as well!

Hopefully these 4 tips will help you achieve your 2017 New Year’s Resolutions!
