A Natural Summer Glow

Even though we all love a good highlighter, a natural summer glow does not have to come from inside a sephora or a favorite beauty store. There are so many natural ways you can adjust your normal summer routine that will leave you with a glow from within.

  • Drink a bottle of water every morning – this is the most essential part to every women’s morning routine. Not only will drinking water in the morning wake your body up a bit, it will also reduce redness, acne and help with dry skin and lips.
    • If you are not a fan of just plain H20, try coconut water (full of potassium, manganese folate and calcium) or try water with lemon, cucumber and mint leaves for a more nutrients and flavorful drink!
  • Use sunscreen everyday – Not only does sunscreen help with awful sunburns, but it also helps with anti-aging. Sunscreen is very important in the summer but try to find a foundation that you really love that has an SPF of 15 or higher for every season (including winter!).
  • Exfoliate your skin – Washing your face every morning and night is extremely important to keep your face fresh and acne free, however in the summer is it even more important that you exfoliate. Exfoliate targets the areas that your normal face wash may skip over such as blackheads, dead skin and even bust through thick layers of left over sweat.
  • Only wear make-up when you have to. The summer is a perfect time to let your skin breathe. Not wearing make up can be the best way to get rid of acne and acne scars. Try not wearing makeup for a whole week, and you will notice a dramatic change in the way your skin looks and feels.
  • Rose water – Rose and coconut waters have gotten popular over the past months all over social media – and with good reasons. Rose water has anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce irritated skin and even help with eczema.
    • Other benefits of rose water include: heals scars and wounds, anti-aging skin and reduces fine lines and wrinkles, has antioxidant properties and cools the skin during hot summer days.

Beach Essentials I Cannot Live Without

I’ll be honest, summer vacation has been the only thing on my mind lately. Traveling with friends and family to explore new places is thrilling. However, if you are like me, packing is a nightmare. I always over-pack but I still forget important items. I know how frustrating it is for me, so I have decided to make a list that will make packing for a beach/pool day easier for you!

Backpack

Personally, I find that a backpack is more ideal for those long beach days. It has zippered pockets and a metal closure on the top so it will reduce the risk of your belongings getting stolen. I always feel more comfortable knowing my personal items are safe and secure. Also, I take a lot of stuff to the beach so taking a backpack gives me the option to throw it on both of my shoulders instead of worrying about carrying all the weight on one shoulder, especially when I’m sunburnt.

My suggestion is this Hunter Mini Backpack. Not only is it super vibrant with its coral color, but it is constructed with a water-resistant rubber material, which is perfect for an ocean getaway.

Must haves: I always keep a small pack of makeup wipes, deodorant, hair ties, an extra pair of sandals and SPF 50 sunscreen.

A Hat

Like I said before, my body loves to get sunburnt, so a floppy hat is an absolute must-have!

Sunglasses:

Besides being the best summer accessory, sunglasses are so fun to shop for. Let’s be real, a girl can never have enough sunglasses in her collection. It is good to have a casual, everyday staple pair and a trendy statement pair. Even though they are intended for ultimate eye protection, I prefer wearing them to capture the perfect summer selfie!

I am addicted to these Quay Australia Cat-Eye Mirrored Sunglasses. You’ll be sure to turn heads in these stand-out sunnies!

A Good Book:

Whether it is a long drive, a brutal plane ride or just something to do on the beach, a good book is my favorite thing to bring on vacation. I recently finished #GIRLBOSS and i HIGHLY recommend it. Not only does it teach you how to be a bad a**, but it is so empowering that you will leave the beach ready to take on the world.

Flip Flops

When you are walking through hot sand and playing in the ocean, you do not want to take a nice pair of sandals that you can easily ruin. The most reasonable option is packing a casual rubber flip flop to slide on for a beach or pool day. Our Havaianas Sandal are water-resistant (obviously) and made of durable materials, so you won’t regret grabbing a pair for your next trip.

Natural Protection

I always take the time to research what is best for my skin and invest in it.

My go-to natural recipe for sunscreen is from wellnessmama.com.

  • 2 tablespoons shea butter (natural SPF 4-5) – optional
  • Optional add ins: Essential Oils, Vanilla Extract or other natural extracts to suit your preference (Do not use citrus essential oils as they increase sun sensitivity)

Carrot seed oil is approximately an SPF of 35-40, and most of these products, including the carrot seed oil, can be ordered on Amazon!

Fun Accessories

I like to bring fun pops of color to add with a simple beach cover up. After soaking in sun, I will head over to a local restaurant, throw on white beach cover up and a few bright bracelets or some layered necklaces to show off my slightly red complexion. These may not be the most essential items to have, but I enjoying throwing on color to spice up my beach day outfit!

I hope this makes packing for summer vacation a little more bearable.

Happy Summer, xo.
