Caramel Apple Treats – ‘Cause Fall’s Not Over Yet!

October has come and gone. We have smashed our jack-o-lanterns and scrapped our last minute DIY costumes. And now, BAM! – the holidays are upon us in full swing. But wait a minute! It’s November. That’s still fall, guys!!! And why would we want to jump the gun and forego all of the best things autumn has to offer – namely, the food.

And yes, yes, I know. Everyone is all about that pumpkin spice. (PSL anyone?) But my personal favorite flavor of autumn is . . . . . . . CARAMEL APPLE! ? And honestly, apple flavor goes all the way into winter.

Below are three of the yummiest caramel apple recipes I have tried!

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Crumble ?

For the apples:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
5 large apples, peeled and cut into chunks
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the topping:
2/3 cup oats
2/3 cup loosely packed brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3-4 tablespoons softened butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, apples, salt, and cinnamon. Spread onto bottom of slow cooker.
  2. Mix the crumble topping ingredients until it comes together. Sprinkle over top of apples. Cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours.
  3. Turn off heat and let sit, covered, for one hour to let the caramel thicken.

Caramel Apple Dessert “Cake” ?

1 1/2 cups Original Bisquick mix
2/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 medium cooking apples, peeled and sliced (2 cups)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup boiling water
Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

  1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Mix Bisquick and granulated sugar in medium bowl. Stir in milk until blended.
  2. Pour into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Top with apples; sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Pour boiling water over apples.
  3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream.

Single-Serving Salted Caramel Apple Crisps ?

1 green apple, roughly chopped
1 tbsp golden raisins
1 tsp chopped pecans
1 tbsp butter
1/2 tbsp flour
1/2 tbsp water
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp white sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 tbsp butter, diced
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp oats
1 tbsp flour

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix together the apple pieces, raisins, and nuts. Divide equally into two bowls or mugs. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and add the water, brown sugar, white sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let simmer for 3 minutes.
  4. Pour the caramel sauce equally over the apple mixture. Set on a baking sheet pan.
  5. In a small bowl, cut together the ½ tbsp butter, brown sugar, oats, and flour to form a crumble. Top the apples with the crumble.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until the crumble starts to turn golden brown.
  7. Drizzle caramel over the top and serve with ice cream (optional)

With the fall season is underway, many of us may have noticed the popular colors that are trending in the fashion industry. PANTONE, the most well-known fashion color reporter, has an interesting color palette for Fall 2016. Many of these colors have already hit the floors at numerous retailers.

The idea for fall 2016 colors were to represent the unity of strength, confidence and optimism – which is led by the blue family.  The colors consist of Riverside, Airy Blue, Sharkskin, Aurora Red, Warm Taupe, Dusty Cedar, Lush Meadow, Spicy Mustard, Potter’s Clay, and Bodacious.

PANTONE Riverside

Riverside is a new blue shade that displays a subtle vibrancy and sophistication. This color is cool and calming, as well as strong and stable. Riverside borders on exciting, yet manages to maintain a sense of consistance.

The Airy Blue color sparks a feeling of lightness and freedom.  Airy blue indicates serenity where designers are seeking to show weightlessness in a world of conflict.

PANTONE Warm Taupe

Warm Taupe is a very timeless color that expresses reassurance and stability. Warm Taupe is a flourishing, pleasant, and welcoming neutral that pairs with each of the other fall shades.

Nail Colors for Fall

If you’re like me, then you feel your best when your nails are painted and manicured.  If you’re also like me, then you hesitate spending $30 every 2-3 weeks to get your nails perfectly manicured and painted.  My favorite brand for nail polish is Essie and although they are priced higher than other brands, the quality of this product blows the competitors out of the water.  It’s totally worth spending the extra couple of dollars on Essie than others because for me, (when I take my time and use a top coat) lasts around 2.5 weeks! I found that it’s about the same as getting a manicure with gel polish and about half the price too.  Here’s some colors that I totally fell in love with and think are perfect for fall!

DIY Halloween: AreaTrend Style

You know what I love about Halloween? (Well…..besides everything….)

Dressing up in costume! ? Then again, who doesn’t love dressing up for the spooky season? Making yourself up to be whatever or whoever you want for a night or a day is so ridiculously fun. However, dang! Those costumes can get expensive! ? Of course, DIY-ing your own costume is always an awesome alternative! But another option I love is using Halloween as an excuse to purchase some hip new fashion pieces. ‘Cause you know, I need them for my costume. ? Besides, what’s better than a fashion piece that I can use both for my costume AND on an everyday basis?

To show you what I mean, here are a couple of classic costume ideas using some of the trendy designer accessories from AreaTrend:

Witchy Woman

You can never go wrong with a classic witch (one of my personal faves). Above we have a modern enchantress with a flare for fashion. All you need to start this look is a black outfit! Although adding a touch of festivity with a Halloween shirt never hurts. ? And of course you will need some spellbinding staples: a witch hat, a broom, and a black cat prop if you really want to amp it up.

The Michael Kors handbag, Vince Camuto shoes, and Versace sunglasses give the outfit a high end twist that you won’t find with the usual costumes-in-a-bag sold at every Halloween store. And the best part is, once you remove the witch hat and broom, you have an adorably edgy, slightly gothy outfit that you can wear everyday! (Well…. maybe switch the Halloween shirt to a regular shirt unless it’s still October.)

The Devil Wears Gucci

This Halloween, the Devil is kicking Prada to the curb in favor of this luxurious red Gucci tote with gold metal hardware. The strappy, pointed-toe Steve Madden heels exude power and a “don’t-mess-with-me” attitude. Finally, the Michael Kors watch is anything but dainty. (Doesn’t the red and black just remind you of the flames of Hell? Hehehehe) And for an outfit? Anything red and sexy. The red bandage dress pictured above is peeeeeeeerfect! You are a devil after all. You’ve got to stand out!

Halloween Hippie

Now, you may not be the type to go for the typical Halloween-themed costumes, like witches, devils, zombies, ghosts, etc. If you’re into costumes that are a bit more bright and happy, try the idea above and be a hippie! With a modern twist of course. And this one is so easy! Tie-dye and fringe are definitely elements you want to include. These Ariat Gold Rush boots and fringed Michael Kors shoulder bag are the perfect accessories to pair with this costume. And bonus! They’d be useful all year round to add a touch of bohemian style to your wardrobe.

Round sunglasses are an absolute must, and these ones by Quay are a great option! Plus, that rose gold color is to die for. (No, I mean it. It’s to die for. Oops, did I just make a bad Halloween pun? ? )

Now, there are a lot of options for your main outfit. Bellbottoms and a tie-dyed shirt, as seen above, are one route to take. But a flowy maxi skirt/dress in a ’60s floral pattern also works great. A fringed vest tops everything off and completes the look.

And there you have it – a few examples of Halloween costumes that utilize 95% regular, everyday clothing and accessories. So simple! Now trendsetters, go out there and treat yourself to some new fashion! Remember, you need it for your costume. ??

In fact, AreaTrend is running a Halloween sale right now! Check it out below! (Shameless plug, yes. But you won’t regret it!)

Makeup Trends for Fall 2016

So according to astrological seasons, fall is officially here! ? Although…it’s been fall since September 1st for me. ha

And of course, a new season means switching up your look! Time to welcome the ever-popular smokey eyes and vampy lips. Some of you may have seen reports on new makeup trends for Fall 2016, but if not, I’m here to fill you in – makeup trends for this season: straight from the runways!

1) Dark, Vampy Lips

Okay, sure. We’ve seen oxblood and berry shades countless times before. But this year, the colors go even darker – plums and reds that border on black. In fact, black is in. And actually, so is dark blue! (Who saw that coming?!) To pull off these gothy pouts, be sure to keep your blush light and your brows dark to add balance to the face.

Check out Lily Collins who consistently pulls this trend off like a pro.

2) Heavily Lined Eyes

This fall it looks like everyone is embracing a little bit of that inner goth, as another popular trend right now is heavy, smudged eyeliner. And I mean all around the eyes – that’s right, just like you did during your middle school emo phase. ? Only now, you should be able to do it with a bit more polish. To keep the focus on your gaze, keep your cheeks and lips a soft nude or pink.

Check out Kendall Jenner modeling for Elie Saab with intense MAC eye makeup (on left).

If that’s a bit too rocker-glam for you, try a softer, smudgy look like Hailee Steinfeld (on right).

3) Glitter!

Yep, that’s right. Glitter has broken away from the holidays and leaked into autumn. There are so many ways to rock this trend, from drenching the lids in glittering shadow to adding a touch of shimmer to the inner corners. If you feel like you need more precision, opt for a glitter liner to add that pop of shine just above your lashes.

On the left we see the glittery cheekbones that caught everyone’s attention at the Burberry Autumn-Winter show.

However, as cool as it looks, it may be a bit out of many people’s comfort zones. On the right is Keiko Lynn sporting a glittery pink look. (Check out her tutorial on how to apply glitter eye makeup! It’s fabulous!) To make it even more fall/winter appropriate, opt for gold or some cooler tones, like lilac and blue.

4) Spider Lashes

Super defined, borderline chunky eyelashes are the norm this fall. And this time, the focus is on the top and bottom lashes – a la Twiggy . Apply multiple layers of mascara to achieve this doll-like look that will make your eyes really pop!

See Kristen Stewart rocking the look below:

5) The “Non-tour”

I think we’ve all become pretty used to the wide array of “Contouring 101” tutorials out there on the Internet. But after all the seasons of chiseling those cheekbones and jawlines, it is finally time to take a step back to the simpler way of things. The goal for this season should be a complexion that falls somewhere between dewy and matte, with effortlessly flushed cheeks and subtle highlights (no “glowing to the gods” strobing this time). Great news for those who shrink away from the daunting puzzle that is contouring!

Lupita Nyong’o (on left) always looks radiant with her fresh-faced makeup! Note the way the light bounces naturally off the high points of her face.

Blake Lively also sported a natural look at the Michael Kors NYFW show back in February. It just goes to show that you don’t need to “re-shape” your face in order to look stunning!

6) Natural Brows

Full brows continue to be on trend, but this time it’s all about embracing what mother nature gave you. No overdrawing the arches or creating a totally new shape. They should still be groomed, yes, but the look should remain soft and feathery. Below you see Cara Delevingne, who arguably has some of the best brows in the universe as we know it. ?  If your brows are naturally thick and full like hers, then all that’s really needed is to brush them  up with a bit of gel for hold. However, if you don’t have super-thick brows, no worries! You can still fill them in with a light brow powder – just keep them looking soft and don’t overdraw your natural shape.

7) Metallics & Brights

This fall seems to be all about going bold or going natural with very little in between. Metallic hues for both the lips and lids make a strong statement for autumn 2016 – with bronze being the shade that really steals the show. And to top everything off, brights, particularly graphic bright eyeliner, continue into the realm of more daring trends. Basically, it’s time to break the rules that say color is for spring and summer and experiment with the craziest looks you can think of!

Okay, so there are obviously more trends I could talk about. But I think these seven give a pretty well-rounded look at the fall 2016 makeup scene. I’m always playing with makeup, and I’m definitely looking forward to trying out some of these trends (those Nyx Cosmic Metals pictured above……I need to get my hands on some of those). Hopefully you have gained some awesome inspiration as well! ❤
