Sugarplum Pastels for Winter

Generally, the chillier months of the year invoke a desire to deck yourself out in earthy shades or rich jewel tones. And I admit, I often gravitate towards colors such as bordeaux, burnt orange, and brown when the temperatures begin to drop. However, my heart always remains with the pastels of warm days past. As a a very girly girl who wears very little black, winter can often be disheartening when it comes to fashion. That is . . . until the past couple of years.

Many of you may have noticed the abundance of “winter pastels” that are available at your local mall. It all began with the insurgence of the “winter white” trend in 2014 that kicked to the curb the old rule about wearing white after Labor Day. And it didn’t take pastels long to follow. And in many ways, it makes sense. White and pale blue are colors that come to mind when you think of ice and snow – while pale pink invokes images of sugarplums and a wintry twilight sky glinting off a freshly fallen snowfall. And these colors look almost ethereal against a winter backdrop. So why let the seasons dictate what colors are acceptable? Go ahead and wear all of these pretty, feminine hues, and look like the chicest snow fairy while doing so!

Caramel Apple Treats – ‘Cause Fall’s Not Over Yet!

October has come and gone. We have smashed our jack-o-lanterns and scrapped our last minute DIY costumes. And now, BAM! – the holidays are upon us in full swing. But wait a minute! It’s November. That’s still fall, guys!!! And why would we want to jump the gun and forego all of the best things autumn has to offer – namely, the food.

And yes, yes, I know. Everyone is all about that pumpkin spice. (PSL anyone?) But my personal favorite flavor of autumn is . . . . . . . CARAMEL APPLE! ? And honestly, apple flavor goes all the way into winter.

Below are three of the yummiest caramel apple recipes I have tried!

Slow Cooker Caramel Apple Crumble ?

For the apples:
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
5 large apples, peeled and cut into chunks
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
For the topping:
2/3 cup oats
2/3 cup loosely packed brown sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
3-4 tablespoons softened butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, granulated sugar, apples, salt, and cinnamon. Spread onto bottom of slow cooker.
  2. Mix the crumble topping ingredients until it comes together. Sprinkle over top of apples. Cook on low for 4 hours, or high for 2 hours.
  3. Turn off heat and let sit, covered, for one hour to let the caramel thicken.

Caramel Apple Dessert “Cake” ?

1 1/2 cups Original Bisquick mix
2/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup milk
2 medium cooking apples, peeled and sliced (2 cups)
1 tablespoon lemon juice
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup boiling water
Sweetened whipped cream or ice cream (optional)

  1. Heat oven to 350ºF. Mix Bisquick and granulated sugar in medium bowl. Stir in milk until blended.
  2. Pour into ungreased square pan, 9x9x2 inches. Top with apples; sprinkle with lemon juice. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over apples. Pour boiling water over apples.
  3. Bake 50 to 60 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream.

Single-Serving Salted Caramel Apple Crisps ?

1 green apple, roughly chopped
1 tbsp golden raisins
1 tsp chopped pecans
1 tbsp butter
1/2 tbsp flour
1/2 tbsp water
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp white sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 tbsp butter, diced
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tbsp oats
1 tbsp flour

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix together the apple pieces, raisins, and nuts. Divide equally into two bowls or mugs. Set aside.
  3. In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and add the water, brown sugar, white sugar, and salt. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and let simmer for 3 minutes.
  4. Pour the caramel sauce equally over the apple mixture. Set on a baking sheet pan.
  5. In a small bowl, cut together the ½ tbsp butter, brown sugar, oats, and flour to form a crumble. Top the apples with the crumble.
  6. Bake for 20 minutes or until the crumble starts to turn golden brown.
  7. Drizzle caramel over the top and serve with ice cream (optional)

Take Your Skirts Into the Colder Months

So the school year has started, the mornings are cooler, and pumpkins are popping up at every store. Summer is officially coming to a close. And that means you’re starting to pack away the sundresses and skirts to favor jeans, leggings, and . . . Wait, stop right there. Let’s not be hasty.

I am the girliest of girls. And if you are anything like me, you tend to shy away from pants (or as I affectionately refer to them: “leg prisons”). Therefore, I have become quite the master of wearing skirts and dresses in the colder months without turning into a human popsicle. In this post I will share some ideas for how to break out those girly garments while remaining warm and stylish.

Key Items

There are a few essential items that fall (Get it? “Fall” . . . Yikes. I better leave the jokes to the professionals.) into four categories, and you probably already have them in your closet!

Tights and Long Socks

Sweater socks

Your legs are likely the first worry that comes to mind when you consider forgoing pants in the cold. For this, tights and thick socks are your best friend! If it’s a warmer fall day, try wearing some cable knit thigh highs. And if it’s colder, opt for a cute pair of tights! Opaque black is always a classic, but tights come in a wide array of colors to match any outfit – you can even mix it up with different textures. Try layering the tights and socks together for a cute layered look (plus extra warmth)!

Bootie  Doc
Boots are the obvious choice of footwear for fall and winter, regardless of what you’re wearing. And good thing, because they are ridiculously cute! Try this bohemian style bootie with a mid heel from Blowfish. Layered with a couple pairs of thick socks of varying lengths, you’ll be keeping warm and looking cute! Or go a bit edgier with a pair of Doc Martens. Pair them with a feminine, floral dress and a black moto jacket to achieve an edgy look with a feminine flare. For maximum warmth, go with a knee-high style, such as this two-toned pair from Rocket Dog. Wear some coordinating tights or have a pair of long socks peek out at the top.

Boots Dress

Alright, so now your legs are warm! But even though they are the most vulnerable in a skirt or a dress, we still can’t forget about bundling up top. Many dresses have low necklines that will leave your chest exposed to the frigid air. Thankfully, there’s a simple solution to that dilemma: scarves! A chunky knit is best for warmth and it helps balance out all those socks you’re wearing below.Scarf1Burberry ScarfInfinity

Cardigans and JacketsBiker Jacket

Cardigans Slouchy Cardiganand jackets are a must. And the great thing about them is that they eliminate the need for your top to be long-sleeved! So even your flirty floral sundress can transition into the colder months. Plus, with the vast array of styles these handy little garments come in, you can create all sorts of different looks. For a cozy look, try a slouchy, cable knit cardigan. Or for a rocker edge, toss on a faux leather bomber or moto jacket. Get casual with an olive green anorak. There’s no limit to the ways you can mix up your dresses and skirts with a good piece of outerwear.

Jacket dress

Well guys, that’s really all there is to it. These are the items that are essential to taking your dresses and skirts into the fall and winter. The key is to balance textures and colors. For example, in the outfit pictured above, the light, airy sundress is balanced with burgundy tights and a heavy leather jacket – creating a perfect outfit for a fall day. Now, am I saying that these are ideal outfits for a snowstorm? Absolutely not. I’d begrudgingly stick to my jeans in extreme weather. In fact, I’d throw in an extra layer of insulating leggings for good measure. But a crisp breeze or a light snowfall is no reason to confine yourself to these “leg prisons” we’re all so used to in the cold. When executed correctly, you can keep warm in a dress or a skirt, and still look like a killer fashionista. Say no to the leg prisons! Free those legs!

And before I go, just look at these looks below! Using ALL of the key items! A++

Fantastic Fragrances for Every Season

We live by the motto “look good, feel good,” but did you know that when you smell good, you feel good too? Trust us, having the right perfume/cologne can really boost your mood, and the moods of others around you! We’ve created a list of essential fragrances that are suitable for every season so keep reading to see our favorites!

If you’re into super fresh and fruity scents, then DKNY’s Be Delicious  is your new go-to! This perfume literally smells like a green apple so if you’re all about smelling yummy, this is the one for you.

This men’s cologne from Lacoste has a fresh and clean scent with notes of tangerine, sandalwood, and patchouli. It’s also extremely relaxing, which is great for the bright and airy days of Spring.

Summer scents are a little stronger than Spring’s and have warmer notes like this one from Dolce & Gabbana, which has amber, bamboo, jasmine, and musk, as well as a hint of Granny Smith Apple.

For those of you who want to feel like you’re on a beach, Cool Water by Davidoff is the essential cologne for that warm, sunny feel. It has notes of mandarin, sandalwood, and even mint to make it feel like vacation 24/7.

With the crisp leaves and bonfires (with s’mores, of course) swirling around you, the only fragrance you need is something to make you feel warm and cozy. The One by Dolce & Gabbana  is the ideal perfume with its notes of plum, jasmine, vanilla, and amber.

One scent that is the epitome of Fall is cinnamon and this one from Calvin Klein, called Obsession, embraces that essence. It also includes vanilla, nutmeg, and patchouli to make you feel like you’re wrapped up in a sweet smelling blanket all day.

Winter fragrances are like Christmas cookies, you can’t have just one. This one from BCBG is a great gift for your loved one (or yourself) with hints of red berries, warm amber, and black vanilla. This is definitely a classic for the Holiday season.

Black by Kenneth Cole  is a bold cologne with lotus flower, exotic woods, and dark violet incense. This will make any man feel like they’re wearing a comfy sweater or soft leather jacket, which is divine for Winter.
